  • Born in Louisville, Mississippi in 1923


  • Put up for adoption at 6 weeks old


  • Adopted by another colored family in Jackson, Mississippi


  • Got her first job as a help in 1939, working for the Lewis family living in a rich, white neighborhood living in the town nearby


  • Got married and had a child in the year 1943
