  1. Some of my first impressions of The Help is how little respect the help were given back in the 60's. Not only were they not respected by a majority of the people they worked for, but they were paid under minimum wage for all of the work they did daily. While reading the book, I could not fathom the idea of having to work for such long hours without a decent pay. I also couldn't imagine having to use a different bathroom or go to a different grocery store just because of my skin color. One thing I definitely could imagine is how frustrated I would feel if I were in their situation. One interesting thing that I found while reading is it seems like most of the help have a strong faith. I believe it is this faith that helps them with their daily struggles. Other than reading about how horribly treated they were, the plot is captivating. I like the fact that the author wrote the book how the actual characters would talk because it makes me feel like I am actually there in the story listening to them. Overall, this book has been great and I can't wait to keep reading it! :)
