First Impressions of The Help
Some of my first impressions of The Help is how little respect the help were given back in the 60's. Not only were they not respected by a majority of the people they worked for, but they were paid under minimum wage for all of the work they did daily. While reading the book, I could not fathom the idea of having to work for such long hours without a decent pay. I also couldn't imagine having to use a different bathroom or go to a different grocery store just because of my skin color. One thing I definitely could imagine is how frustrated I would feel if I were in their situation. One interesting thing that I found while reading is it seems like most of the help have a strong faith. I believe it is this faith that helps them with their daily struggles. Other than reading about how horribly treated they were, the plot is captivating. I like the fact that the author wrote the book how the actual characters would talk because it makes me feel like I am actually there in the story listening to them. Overall, this book has been great and I can't wait to keep reading it! :)
